New Year Revolutions

The Quill Pen Pal

Revolution: A sudden, radical, or complete change; a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something; a change of paradigm.

What better way to begin the New Year than by initiating a revolution, or perhaps several? The standard resolution is defined as a "firm resolve." And for most people, with each passing day into the New Year, that firm resolve seems to dissolve into absolutely nothing. But a revolution?

A sudden, radical, or complete change. Your call to action. A fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something. Change with substance. A change of paradigm. Challenge or set a new example for yourself.

Is your life everything you meant it to be? Are you getting what you want out of it? Are you satisfied, even delighted with the way your life has turned out? If not, perhaps it's time to make a revolution. Here are some revolutionary ideas to consider:

Acquire More Quality Time: Take enough time for yourself and those you love. Spend more time with your family. Ask for flex-time or a flexible schedule more accommodating to your home life from your employers. Many people go through life working themselves to the bone not realizing that once the years have come and gone, that's it. After all, you only live once. And besides, progressive employers know that an employee that is tired or burnt out, is not a very productive one. Seek balance. Don't let life pass you by; take the initiative while you still can.

Do Rewarding Work: Do more of the work you like doing and less of what you don't. If you're not enjoying the work you do, there's no one to blame but yourself. It might be time to change careers or go back to school to get retrained in an area that might be more conducive to your interests. Get support from a colleague, mentor, coach or group to make it a reality. If you can do different work in the same business, start now to make the shift. Life is much too short to do work you don't enjoy, and it doesn't make much sense to do it if you're unhappy.

Volunteer: Do you have a special talent? Do you have several talents? How can you create something wonderful around them? Do something to help others or the less fortunate. Volunteer your spare time and teach a skill. And, you don't necessarily have to be talented at anything in particular to make a difference. Just volunteer your time. Every little bit can make a difference somewhere, somehow! Not only will you be helping others, but it will make you feel good, too!

Clean Your Home: One person's rubbish is another person's gold. Don't think that just because you don't want it, no one else will either. Put your junk up for sale and find out whether you can turn clutter into some bankable cash. Not only will you be accomplishing something by cleaning your home, you'll also be earning extra income. And, to be completely revolutionary, after you've put some of the money in the bank or paid off some bills, donate a portion of it to a worthwhile cause or charity. Not only is donating noble, it will lift your spirits!

Remember, a resolution is just a firm resolve. A revolution is a life-changing experience. To change your life is to be revolutionary. Only you can start your own New Year revolution!
